Guidelines for Submissions / Instructions pour la soumission d’articles A Note from the Editor It is fitting that this special issue on open access in higher education coincides with the launch of the Canadian Journal of Higher Education as an Open Source journal. From this issue onward, the CJHE will be available online, free of charge, to the entire world. Volume 39, Issue 3 will be the last hard copy issue of the CJHE. In making this change, we are joining a “new generation of journals committed to open access” ( http://pkp.sfu.ca/?q=ojs ) by converting the traditional format of the CJHE to open source/open access. Our intention is to provide leadership in the field of higher education by practicing open knowledge dissemination, promoting and fostering dialogue on the topic of open access (e.g., with this special issue), enhancing our indexing capability, expanding the readership of the CJHE, and assisting a new generation of scholars to embrace this approach to publishing. Over the next 12 months, we will make the full transition to open access by transforming and streamlining the journal management and publishing system from a labour intensive email operation to an electronic system using Open Journal Systems (OJS) developed through the Public Knowledge Project (PKP). Also, we have changed our copyright policy to ensure that authors retain the copyright and license certain rights to the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education. We will maintain our current practice of blind peer review. Many thanks to Jean-Claude Guédon for serving as Guest Editor for this special issue. Also, we extend our thanks to John Willinsky for pioneering the Public Knowledge Project and providing advice and support. We also thank UBC librarians Jo-Anne Naslund, Joy Kirchner, Hilde Colenbrander, and Robert Stibravy for encouraging us to make the transition to OJS and assisting us to do so. Because of the superb technical and graphic expertise of journal manager Sharon Hu, we are a full two years ahead of our goal of launching the Canadian Journal of Higher Education as an Open Source journal.
